If one of your criteria for a wedding venue is that it’s unique, one of the best choices that you can make is to exchange vows at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, California. You’ve seen weddings happen in popular destinations like Paris and Italy but you’ve never really seen special and beautiful locations like this. The wedding location is right on the hilltop that’s overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you look close enough, you’ll be able to see the water from there pouring into the San Francisco Bay. You’ll be having a wedding in a place of history and beauty if you pick this spot.

The same way that the Eiffel Tower is a feature in Paris wedding locations, you have the infamous Golden Gate Bridge in your backdrop. Indoors, you have a great choice too. You’ll be surrounded by the art that’s in the Rodin Galleries even when you already have enough of beauty from the architecture of the museum itself. The best thing about this wedding location is that you’ll always be sure that wherever you, your partner and your guests stand, it will be a perfect spot for a photograph.

In the heat of the moment of your wedding, you’ll already be surrounded with a fantastic sight. It’s enough to awe you and your guest. Just as you remember your wedding day, many of the people you’ve invited will also look back on your wedding as one of the most memorable. You can go with a tent for the front location and even have your reception where Rodin’s Thinker is. You might be worried that you have a limited number of guests to invite in a wedding in this museum. Don’t worry about that because there’s space enough for 400 guests.

You might like to exchange vows in an outdoor location and hold the reception in an indoor location. The Legion of Honor can accommodate all of your needs and wants. The perfect wedding can happen for you under the trees of the lawn where you can move into the Rodin Galleries for a night of fun and celebration together with the most beautiful and breathtaking of sculptures. Your wedding will be just like a dream. It’s what you’ve hoped for and what you’ve prayed for. And the best part of it is that it’s going to be a dream that’s totally original and utterly memorable.

Probably one of the most romantic cities in the world would be one city you’ve never even thought about for a wedding. It’s going to be a great location for your exchange of vows and you’ll be in the midst of the lush gardens of a beautiful park. The location is New York City and the wedding venue is Central Park. You have a number of spots to tie the knot there, more specifically, four beautiful spots like The Conservatory Gardens, The Pool, Bow Bridge and Shakespeare Garden.

If you and your partner love the works of Shakespeare, you can have your wedding in a garden that’s full of beautiful flowers that are mentioned in his works. When you book this location for your wedding, the best time for the ceremony would be in spring when all the flowers and plant life are in bloom and vibrant. The best thing about this spot in Central Park is that it’s a less frequented area where you can have all the privacy and intimacy you want for a wedding ceremony. You can have your closest friends and family with you and then you can move to a popular location for the reception.

The Conservatory Gardens might be your choice for a wedding location in New York City. If you pick this place, you can pick a spot that matches your wedding theme if you want to have an English style wedding, an Italian style wedding or a French style wedding. The conservatory is a large expanse of land divided into three categories for these particular styles. It’s going to be the perfect location for a memorable and romantic kind of garden wedding where you’ll be surrounded by beautiful flowers blooming wonderfully just as you and your partner’s love is blooming.

Being in the center of the city, you’ll have all the services you need to make your wedding perfect. You have your choice of caterers, your choice of musicians or band and even your choice for mode of transportation. For this, you can go with the most traditional way of getting around to enjoy the sights in Central Park, a horse drawn carriage. The ceremony itself can take place in the park and you can have any of the posh restaurants around the city as a reception venue. As romantic as the city is, you’ll also have everything at your fingertips for a beautiful wedding.

There is a way to tell what the health and wellness is like in any area that you may visit. Take a look at their dogs. Are the dogs healthy? Do they run scared when you pass, or growl and snarl to keep you at bay? Are they kept on leashes or allowed to roam freely? There is a very good chance that if the dogs are fat and happy, lounging lazily in the streets, then the people in that area are kind and mindful.

Take Darjeeling for example. If you have traveled through parts of India, you will certainly have noticed the sad lives of dogs. When entering the mountain top streets in Darjeeling, you will find another situation entirely. Often laying in the middle of the walking path, or bouncing down the side of the road, are dogs that still have all their hair, look well fed, and are friendly to the people they pass. Their tails are wagging, and they might even come up to elicit a pet from you.

Equally evident is the health and happiness in the faces of the people of Darjeeling. One must only walk along the city center, past the area where cars are allowed, and people can be seen exercising at all hours of the day. Older people line the benches at the sides of the paths, watching the passers by. Joggers and speed walkers move around the hilltop path, stopping occasionally to chat with friends or offer a little prayer at one of the many shrines along the way.

Maybe this all has to do with the fresh air. Because of its high altitude, Darjeeling is filled with fresh air. Despite the typical India emission problems, the air is fresher during walks and exercises.

Perhaps it has to do with the history of sherpas, and the famous people that have lead expeditions based in Darjeeling. There is actually a small museum where you can see the history of climbs that have taken place on Mt Everest, and a special statue in honor of the Darjeeling son, Tenzig Norgay, who is one of the most famous mountain climbers of all times. Trekking is very popular in the area, and the altitude in Darjeeling is a perfect place for people to train for bigger and tougher climbs. It is possible that the trekking spirit permeates through the rest of the community of Darjeeling.

Maybe it is the wonderful views that the people are blessed with. One can see kilometers and kilometers in all directions with the right vantage point. Green valleys spread out into the distance with the jagged grey Himalayan peaks popping out from behind the clouds occasionally. Who would not feel good and smile regularly if they had a chance to see that magnificent view each day.

It is also very possible that the smiling faces and fat dogs come from the heavily Buddhist influences on Darjeeling. Buddha spoke of acceptance, compassion and love of fellow man. He also insisted that the same respect and love be offered to all animals. Any visit to one of the spectacular Buddhist temples and monasteries in the area will certainly produce more smiling faces.

There are a number of things that can contribute to the feeling of generosity and wellness in Darjeeling. There is not one answer to this dilemma, and who would need one. The best thing about it all is that when you visit this inspiring city, be ready for warm tea and warm smiles.

Singapore is known for its clean streets, stringent rules and bustling ports. It has grown in its forty-five years of independence to become one of the premier cities in Asia, and its growth plan to add three million or so people to its population before creating a cap, is sure to mean that its status will only get stronger. The Singapore skyline has and continues to develop into a beautiful collage of modern high-rises, creative shopping malls and innovative entertainment centers. All these, and of course its famous new casino, make it a visual spectacle to be admired in the day time, but especially in the night. It is vibrant and alive.

Wafting Delights
Underneath all these enticing features is the sound and smell of woks and noodles and international cuisine that will give even Hong Kong a challenge as an Asian culinary favorite city. Among the endless streets of coffee shops, dining halls and stalls, a few locations and dishes stand out for their tried and tested durability in the choosy market of constant customers.

Singapore is a dine-out culture. More than half of the inhabitants eat out for at least one of their meals each day. This has created the popular hawker centers, where sometime fifty to eighty small stalls have been set up under one roof. Anything can be found at these centers, but some of the favorite dishes include chicken rice, laksa, prawn noodle, duck, wanton noodle, char siew (barbequed pork), fish-ball noodle, roti prata, porridge, nasi padang and nasi lemak, bak khu te and satay.

One of the more notable places to dine is the east coast hawker center. Its location along the beach makes it a great place to take the family, or to be able to walk off the stuffing meal you just put away.
Newton Circus hawker center is located off Orchard Road, and a popular stop for many of the tour busses traveling through Singapore.
The old market hawker center may be the oldest one in Singapore, staking its location at the heart of the financial district.
Many people say the best laksa in town can be found in Katong. Laksa is an amazing dish consisting of coconut milk, noodles, fishcake, kafir leaves, prawns, lemongrass and various spices. Laksa can be classified normally as either Penang laksa or Curry laksa or Peranakan laksa, depending on the area it originated from.
Chicken rice is available all over Singapore, but one famous area it is found is at River Valley Road. The chicken is either roasted or boiled, and the rice is flavored with the chicken broth, all topped with a special mixture of garlic-chili paste.
Chinatown, as it is in any famous city, is a hot-bead of food possibilities. One can find the normal Chinese dishes, but some of the odder delicacies include pig intestine soup, turtle soup, and the amazing chili-crab.

Singapore food is influenced by the many cultures that call it home. Indians, Chinese, Malaysians and British have all played a huge part in the history and development of the cuisine. Being an international melting pot, Singapore is also influenced by Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Pilipino and other incoming immigrant flavors. Singapore will use its abundant influences to continue to create wonderful dishes to offer its visitors and residents, and is sure to solidify its rising reputation as possibly the best place to eat in Asia.

Tucked away in the far southwest corner of Australia, is a wondrous forest of giants and kangaroos. Stretching from Margaret River to Denmark, one can find numerous patches of Karri trees to fill the soul and liven the spirits. These glorious trees are nothing less than magical, and it is rumored that druids and witches live unrecognized in these forests, practicing their arts of nature worship. Whether you are a fairy, hiker, biker fisher, four-wheel driver or just nature enthusiast, you are bound to fall in love with the karri forests of southwest Australia.

Karri trees are members of the eucalyptus family. This means that they have bark that falls from the trunk resulting in a creamy colored wood exposure. They can grow up to ninety meters tall, making them one of the largest trees in the world. Their remote location in Australia keeps them protected, even though they are a tourist attraction. Many years ago they were highly sought after for their wood, as it is beautiful in color, and makes fine furniture. There are still streets in London that are paved with circular cutting from ancient karri trees.

Just outside Margaret River there is a patch of karri forest where you can stop and enjoy the silence. The colors provided by the light being diffused through the leaves is magnificent, and the sounds of the bird calls bouncing off the trunks echoes right through you. Most visitors to the region may only see this small area, as it is close to a highly trafficked tourist destination, but to truly immerse yourself in the karri forest you must drive a couple hours south to the Warren National Park and biological region. It is there that you will simply be awed by the full majesty of these trees.

South of Nanup, just as you cross the Donnelly River, you will be greeted by the Karri Forest Region. There is a radio guided tour available, and highly recommended, called the Karri Forest Explorer. Keep your eyes open and you will definitely see the road signs denoting the station and various locations for the tour. If you are adventurous, you might consider climbing one of the three lookout trees known as the Diamond Tree, Gluocester Tree and the Bicentennial Tree. The tallest is seventy-five meters tall, and they all have platforms near the top that were and still occasionally are used for spotting fires.

I you want to see the tree tops, but are not ready to climb the leg shaking ladder to the top, then the Valley of Giants tree top tour in Walpole is probably best for you. It is another hour and a half south of Pemberton and Warren Park, but is a beautiful drive through similar karri forest to get there. You can refresh and educate yourself at the wilderness discover center, and take your time meandering over the high walkways suspended across the tops to the karri trees.

Luckily this region is blessed with higher rainfall than the rest of Western Australia, which means you’ll probably see green forest most of the year round. Karri trees flower in the spring and summer, so you can take your pick of season for visiting. These amazing trees grow very near to the coast, and have two significant rivers running through them, so be prepared to stay a while at any of the many camping sites, budget or higher end lodges that populate the area. Being in the karri forests of southwest Australia is like nothing you’ve seen or experienced before, and should be a high priority on your vacation checklist.

One minute in the streets of Chennai is enough to rattle the nerves of anyone.
Standing in a cloud of exhaust left from the tuk tuk that just swindled you out of your money, you look around trying to get your bearings. The heat is blistering, and the sweat rolling down your head is washing away the dirt from the street resting on your skin. Cars honk, because that is what they do in India. If cars did not honk in India, no one would drive them. With two days planned in this crazy city, you think to yourself that you need to get away and gather yourself.

Finding a decent hotel, you get some water in you and a short stint in front of the air conditioner. The local guidebook is sitting on the bedside table, so you grab it with hopes of finding a starting direction. You decide that in order to understand the way the city works, you should learn how it came to be. Therefore, you will chase down the past by heading out to the top historical sites of Chennai.

Why not start with a couple historic Temples to get into the spirit of India? The first one you visit is Parthasarathy Temple. You are blown away by the intricate designs and sculptures adorning the inside and outside of the temple. This temple is actually one of the oldest buildings in Chennai, and a great start to your race to understand more about the fourth largest city in India.

The second temple you see is Marundeeswara. The size of the land inside the walls makes you feel small. You decide to get a guide, who informs you about the history and the more recent renovations that restored this massive temple back to its original splendor. You learn the story of the Ramayana is depicted in the statues that surround the seven ascending levels of the temple. After a short rest at the small lake temple, you decide to head to the beach.

The guide tells you that the great Vivekananda passed through the area on his way to the southern tip of India, where he would find his greatest wisdom. You decide that if you are to see the beach, then you should go to the Ice House on Marina Beach. On arrival you are immediately taken by the Victorian design and how it differs to the ancient temple designs you just saw. It is a clear reminder of the British influence in India. You learn about the powerful message that Vivekananda taught the people of India. In fact, it was his words to the religious leaders of the world at a conference in America in the 1890’s that introduced Himduism to the world. Later, his teaching would inspire Sri. Aurobindo to start the movement that would lead to India’s independence. As you sit on the beach across the street from the Ice House, you are finally able to take in the day you have had. From the excitement of your entrance into the city, to the rush to get in some sites, you were a little frazzled. Seeing the ancient temples put you into the spirit of ancient Chennai. The English architecture of the Ice House showed you the inextricable history shared between India and England, and the message of Vivekananda and the freedom of country and spirit that it lead to showed you the full circle of how all things eventually return to where they started. With so much in so little time today, who knows what tomorrow will hold.

There is a quiet anticipation in the early morning streets of Siem Reap. Even before the sun is up, rickshaws and tour guides are cleaning their vehicles in preparation for the first customers of the day. Slowly, tourists start to exit hotels and hostels, headed out into the pre-dawn chill of Siem Reap, in hopes of catching the welcoming rays of the morning sun as they shine their light on the magnificent historical temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Pre Rup and others that populate the region.

It is important to choose the right location for your morning outing, as certain spots are popularly known for their sunrise spectacular. If you are headed to one of these locations, leave earlier than you think you should. If you want to be in a quieter and more private setting, ask your driver to take you to a less known place, or do your research thoroughly before heading out. If you are lucky, you will get to see the day’s first light with a small crowd, or even possibly alone.

Be prepared for the occasion by packing a light breakfast of fruit or breads. Take some water or a thermos of hot tea. Carry a blanket to sit on and maybe another to cover your self with, as it can be chilly in the wee hours. You might want to bring your compactable umbrella or a small raincoat just in case the clouds open up and rain tumbles down upon you. Make sure to leave the house with all things you may need throughout the day, as once you leave, you might not come back until late afternoon or evening. If you are a wise traveler, you will hire an honest drive to accompany you throughout the entire time you are in Siem Reap, or at least from the day. Talk to them the night before, and they will probably be able to supply you with most of the necessary items you need for the morning, including breakfast.

Once you have arrived at your sun-up location choice, get to the highest and clearest position you can find. If you have chosen the lake, which is popular, find a dry area, and place the water between you and the rising sun. If you are at one of the temples, get situated and allow your mind to rest, maybe with a quiet meditation.

When the show starts, you will not want to miss a moment. There is a haze in the distance as the sun breaks the horizon, glowing red and dusty just over the clouds and trees. Your face begins to warm and the smile in your heart spreads to your face. The stones of the temple around you come to life, as the lichens and cracks on the walls catch the morning light. If you listen closely, you may even feel and hear the temple take its first breath of the day, and the old spirits of Cambodian past will again dance in the new daylight.

Take time to enjoy the entire experience. Feel the joy of the other people around you. Look into the eyes of someone you do not know, and you will recognize a relation. The human relation is evident all throughout Siem Reap, and the temples and appreciation of all things ancient and beautiful will bond you not only to your fellow tourists, but also to the oldest and deepest essence within your self, your humanity.
